Philadelphia Eagles player Josh Sills charged with rape, kidnapping weeks before Super Bowl

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (TCD) -- Twenty-five-year-old Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Joshua Sills was recently indicted by a grand jury on charges of rape and kidnapping out of Guernsey County in Ohio.
According to the indictment, in December 2019, Sills allegedly kidnapped the female victim, engaged in sexual conduct with her, and "purposely compelled her to submit by force or threat of force."
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the indictment Wednesday, Feb. 1, and said Sills is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16, only a few days after the Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, according to the NFL.
The NFL said Sills was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List and added, "Sills may not participate in practices and games or travel with the team while on the Commissioner Exempt List. The matter will be reviewed under the NFL’s personal conduct policy."
In a statement obtained by the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles said, "The organization is aware of the legal matter involving Josh Sills. We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time."
Sills reportedly played in one game this season, which the Eagles won against the Arizona Cardinals. Before his NFL career, Sills, a Sarahsville, Ohio, native, played college football at West Virginia and Oklahoma State.
