W.Va. man allegedly held family hostage and threatened them with metal pipe

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (TCD) -- A 28-year-old man armed with a metal pipe allegedly held a family hostage.
According to the Mingo County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, Nathan Jewell, of Matewan, faces charges of malicious wounding, kidnapping, domestic battery, domestic assault, and obstructing an officer.
Jewell and the family members reportedly got into an argument prior to the incident, WSAZ-TV reports. The criminal complaint obtained by WOWK-TV alleges that Jewell then started hitting the victims with a metal pipe and held them against their will inside a home.
One victim was allegedly able to safely escape and run to Giovanni's Pizza, where they called 911.
Upon their arrival, deputies were reportedly met by Jewell, as he came toward them with the metal pipe and refused to comply with their commands.
According to WOWK, deputies eventually Tased Jewell, and he was subsequently taken into custody.
Inside the home, authorities reportedly found a victim suffering from a laceration to the back of the head, but the victim refused treatment.
The individual who was able to escape and call for help allegedly underwent treatment for two lacerations to the head.
Jewell was booked into the Southwestern Regional Jail on Feb. 4, where he remains held, records show.
