NASHVILLE, N.C. (TCD) -- A 72-year-old grandmother is accused of fatally beating her 8-year-old granddaughter.
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about a child who was brought to the hospital with "severe injuries and was deceased upon arrival."
Upon further investigation, authorities reportedly concluded that the 8-year-old victim died from injuries sustained from allegedly being beaten by her grandmother, Patricia Ricks.
The Sheriff’s Office said the victim and several other siblings all lived together with Ricks, their legal guardian, in the 5000 block of Dutchman Road.
Ricks was reportedly arrested and booked into the Nash County Detention Center for first-degree murder and felony child abuse with serious injury. She remains held without bond.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ricks is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Detectives have not determined the motive, and the Sheriff’s Office said the victim’s other siblings are in the custody of Nash County Department of Social Services.
