CHANDLER, Ariz. (TCD) -- A 50-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked two of his co-workers, one fatally, at their office Saturday morning.
According to the Chandler Police Department, on Saturday, Feb. 18, at approximately 6:15 a.m., officers were called to the Intel Ocotillo Campus near Dobson Eoad and Ocotillo Road regarding an assault. Responding officers found one victim who was "fatally injured from what appears to be blunt-force trauma."
A second victim was found with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to a nearby hospital.
Chandler Police identified the suspect as Derrick Lemond Simmons and said he and the two victims were co-workers at the Intel office.
AZFamily.com reports Simmons was standing outside the office holding duffel bags when police arrived and identified himself as the suspect.
The person who died was identified as 49-year-old Dan Foster.
According to court documents cited by AZFamily.com, Simmons allegedly approached Foster and the other victim, Jaron Williams, at a table in the cafeteria and hit Foster in the head with the bat. Williams reportedly got up, and Simmons hit him in the head as well.
The court documents reportedly noted Foster was killed with the bat, a hatchet, and a knife, but Sgt. Emma Huenneke told AZFamily.com she was "not going to disclose" any information regarding the weapons.
Simmons was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
