Missing woman found dead in North Carolina mountains

JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. (TCD) -- A homicide investigation is underway after the body of a missing 37-year-old woman was recently discovered in the North Carolina mountains.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office said Alison Thomas was last seen Feb. 13 on Flint Ridge Road, and an investigation was launched following her disappearance.
Earlier this month, officials from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced that a body was found on national forestland within their jurisdiction. The Union County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Thomas, and her death is being investigated as a homicide.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is working alongside officials from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation "to identify and apprehend the person/persons responsible for the death of Ms. Thomas."
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading up to an arrest.
In a statement, the Union County Sheriff’s Office said, "This incident is considered to be an isolated event, and there is no known cause for concern for anyone in the Union or Jackson County areas."
