3 men convicted of fatally shooting rapper XXXTentacion

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (TCD) -- After several days of deliberation, a jury found three men guilty this week of killing rapper XXXTentacion during a robbery in 2018.
The Associated Press reports a Broward County jury convicted 28-year-old Michael Boatwright, 26-year-old Dedrick Williams, and 24-year-old Trayvon Newsome of first-degree murder and armed robbery for the June 18, 2018, shooting of Jahseh Onfroy, who was more famously known by his stage name, XXXTentacion.
The three men will be sentenced to life in prison.
A fourth accomplice, Robert Allen, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year, according The Associated Press. He will also be sentenced at a later date.
According to the arrest affidavit, on June 18, 2018, at 3:57 p.m., Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to 3671 North Dixie Highway in Deerfield Beach regarding a shooting and found the rapper in the driver’s seat of a black BMW, which had been parked at Riva Motor Sports. Deputies learned XXXTentacion and his friend Leonard Kerr went to the business to look at motorcycles.
Kerr reportedly told deputies that as he and XXXTentacion were leaving, a dark-colored SUV cut them off in the parking lot. Two armed suspects got out of the vehicle and demanded some of the rapper’s property. One of the suspects shot XXXTentacion and then grabbed a Louis Vuitton bag from the car.
The Louis Vuitton bag contained $50,000 in cash, XXXTentacion’s cellphone, and the BMW keys.
The Associated Press reports Boatwright and Newsome carried out the robbery and shooting while Williams drove the SUV and Allen sat inside the Dodge Journey.
The affidavit says XXXTentacion and Kerr walked into Riva Motor Sports at 3:31 p.m., and two suspects walked in moments later. The two suspects purchased an item, left, got back in the car, and waited for XXXTentacion and Kerr to leave.
The Dodge Journey was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run about three hours later, and all the men reportedly got out of the car and ran.
Prior to his death, XXXTentacion was charged in 2016 with domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, false imprisonment, and witness tampering for allegedly beating his girlfriend at the time.
