Louisville shooting: At least 4 dead, 9 wounded after employee opens fire inside bank

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (TCD) -- Five people, including the gunman, are dead and nine others were wounded Monday morning after an employee opened fire inside a bank in downtown Louisville.
On Monday, April 10, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Louisville Police received calls about an "active aggressor" on the 300 block of East Main Street, noting there were "multiple casualties." In a follow-up tweet, Louisville Police confirmed the shooting occurred at the Old National Bank and said officers arrived at the scene "in minutes."
Louisville Police said the "lone shooter" was dead and there was no ongoing threat to the public. The injured victims were transported to University of Louisville Hospital. WHAS-TV reports three people were discharged from the hospital by Monday afternoon.
Louisville Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said in a news briefing officers encountered the shooter "almost immediately still firing gunshots." Officers exchanged fire with the suspect, and the shooter died at the scene.
According to Humphrey, two officers were among the injured, including one in critical condition.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in the news conference one of his friends was killed in the shooting.
Federal law enforcement officials are assisting on the scene.

In a follow-up press conference Monday afternoon, Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel identified the suspect as 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon, who worked at the bank. He used a rifle in the shooting.
Gwinn-Villaroel also identified the four victims as Tommy Elliot, 63, James Tutt, 64, Joshua Barrick, 40, and Juliana Farmer, 57.
Three people remain in critical condition, including Officer Nicholas Wilt, who was shot in the head. Wilt graduated from the police academy March 31. Gwinn-Villaroel said he underwent brain surgery and is in critical but stable condition. Three other victims are in non-critical condition.
Beshear and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg both referred to Elliott as a dear friend.
Dr. Jason Smith from the University of Louisville Hospital said all three of the victims in critical condition had to undergo surgery.
Gwinn-Villaroel said the shooter livestreamed the incident. She also confirmed Louisville Police shot and killed the suspect.
