MCKINNEY, Texas (TCD) -- A 28-year-old man will spend 65 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing and impregnating a minor.
According to a news release from the Collin County District Attorney's Office, Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Aguirre sexually abused the victim "over the course of a year, starting when the victim was 11 years old." Doctors discovered the girl was pregnant during an annual physical exam, and a paternity DNA test showed a "strong likelihood that Rodriguez-Aguirre was the father of the victim's child."
The victim reportedly told a family member about the abuse, which was then reported to Child Protective Services and to the Wylie Police Department. According to the District Attorney's Office, the victim detailed the abuse to officials at the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County.
A jury found Rodriguez-Aguirre guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child, and on Wednesday, April 12, the District Attorney's Office announced he was sentenced to 65 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
After his sentencing, District Attorney Greg Willis said, "I’m amazed at the courage of this child, who mustered the strength to testify against her abuser."
