CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- A wanted woman was located and arrested in Atlanta almost four years after she allegedly caught her boyfriend having an affair and shot him.
Shawn Jackson’s live-in girlfriend, Newoker Hurt, and his son, Nicholas Jackson, reported Shawn missing to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office July 31, 2019. Almost three weeks later, on Aug. 19, 2019, investigators discovered a body in a shallow grave in Jefferson County, Alabama, and positively identified the remains as Jackson from fingerprints, tattoos, and clothing.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives learned Hurt allegedly caught Jackson having an affair with another woman. Hurt and Jackson reportedly got into an argument outside of the other woman’s house, then "fought all day through the night."
Nicholas Jackson reportedly told investigators Hurt and his father were "calm" by nighttime. When Nicholas Jackson woke up the next morning, Hurt reportedly told him Shawn Jackson left in the middle of the night.
Clayton County Police detectives allege Hurt shot Jackson three times in the head while he slept, then called her brother to help get rid of the body.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Elite Fugitive Squad located Hurt at an apartment in Atlanta on Thursday, April 20, and arrested her on charges of malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of another person.
Her brother, Shrron Hurt, also faces the same charges. He’s currently in federal prison in West Virginia.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said about the arrest, "The Elite Fugitive Squad are the best players of hide-and-seek and they find everyone. Therefore criminals now need to rethink again two, three, or even four times before committing a crime in Clayton County."
