Mississippi man pleads guilty in the death of his 17-year-old stepdaughter

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man will spend five decades in prison after recently pleading guilty to charges related to the 2020 death of his 17-year-old stepdaughter.

In late October 2020, just before 9:30 p.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a home on the 600 block of Lowder Drive, where they found 17-year-old Lamonica Tucker with apparent signs of physical abuse. Tucker was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

There were reportedly two other children in the home, ages 12 and 14, with signs of prolonged physical abuse.

The children’s mother, LaTiffany Chambers, 35, and Danny Dabbs were taken into custody and initially booked into the Hinds County Jail. Several months later, in February 2021, a Hinds County grand jury indicted Chambers and Dabbs on charges of capital murder and two counts of felony child abuse.

According to WJTV-TV, Dabbs recently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of felony child abuse. He was sentenced to 40 years for second-degree murder and 10 years for felony child abuse, WLBT-TV reports.

Chambers was previously sentenced on April 13 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for capital murder and 10 years each for two counts of felony child abuse. She remains held in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
