CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (TCD) – Police have arrested a 59-year-old man accused of killing a missing woman 10 years ago and leaving her body in a wooded area near her apartment.
Carol Reiff’s family members reported her missing to Gloucester Township Police after the 59-year-old failed to show up to a family member’s home in Manahawkin, New Jersey, on June 21, 2013. Her family last spoke with her the day prior, and they contacted police when she never arrived.
Police said at the time her death was "suspicious."
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Gloucester Police went to Reiff’s home and saw that her car was still parked at the complex and her keys were inside, but she was nowhere to be found. Police located her body June 24, 2013, in a wooded area behind a maintenance building. Her cause and manner of death were undetermined due to the level of decomposition.
Investigators interviewed a maintenance worker, Joseph Grisoff, who reportedly lived near Reiff’s residence. He told police he saw her around and "admitted to complimenting her in the past" but claimed he never went inside her apartment.
Detectives retrieved DNA samples from Reiff’s jeans and a beer bottle, but the testing was inconclusive. New DNA technology, however, showed a "strong proposition that the victim and Grisoff were both contributors to DNA profiles obtained from the jeans and the beer bottle."
Officials from the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Grisoff in Moorestown on a charge of first-degree murder.
