Ohio teen gets life for fatally stabbing man at park

STARK COUNTY, Ohio (TCD) -- A 17-year-old girl will spend the rest of her life behind bars in connection with the 2022 fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man.
The Stark County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced May 12 that Marissa Smith was found guilty of murder and felonious assault. On Monday, May 22, Stark County Court of Common Pleas Judge Natalie Haupt sentenced Smith as an adult to life in prison without the possibility of parole, WOIO-TV reports.
According to the Louisville Police Department, on Sept. 13, 2022, at approximately 4 p.m., officers responded to Wildwood Park to a report of a stabbing. Police found the victim, Michael Morris, suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Morris was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
According to police, Smith was initially charged with murder, felonious assault, and aggravated criminal trespass.
A 15-year-old male reportedly provided the knife to Smith, and he was charged with aiding and abetting in murder and felonious assault, aggravated criminal trespass, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Police said, "The altercation involved multiple juveniles and reportedly stems from previous unresolved conflicts between some of those involved."
