CLEVELAND (TCD) -- Police are investigating the deaths of two infants after they were reportedly found inside a trash can over the weekend.
WJW-TV reports homicide detectives from the Cleveland Police Department responded to a residence on the 2800 block of Ludlow Road on Saturday, May 20, after receiving information about the deceased children.
According to WOIO-TV, a landscaper reportedly discovered the infants' bodies while throwing away yard clippings. Cleveland Police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia told the news station, "The Cleveland Police Homicide Unit investigates all cases of child fatalities."
It was not immediately clear how the children died. WJW reports police are speaking with the children’s 16-year-old mother, who is in the hospital. The mother will reportedly likely face charges in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, though she has not been formally charged with any crimes yet.
WKYC-TV reports the mother gave birth to the children Thursday, May 18. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the newborns as Baby Baker A and Baby Baker B. The children were born full-term.
Cleveland Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
