ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (TCD) -- The Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced charges this week against a 44-year-old father who allegedly fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in front of their 10-year-old child.
According to Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney Karen D. McDonald, Gregory Davis faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, felonious assault, and four counts of felony firearm second offense.
On Saturday, May 20, Davis allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend to her place of work at a car dealership, where he used his car to block hers. The victim, identified as Anni Namou by WJBK-TV, reportedly exited her vehicle to get help when Davis "shot her as she was running away and then shot her again at close range with a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun."
McDonald said the shotgun was allegedly taken from another individual.
Namou and Davis’ 10-year-old child reportedly witnessed the fatal shooting from his mother’s car.
Following Namou’s death, Davis allegedly pulled out the gun and pointed it at other people at the car dealership.
According to McDonald, he turned himself in to police later that day and was booked into the Oakland County Jail.
Davis faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of first-degree premeditated murder.
In a statement, McDonald said, "This is a horrific and tragic incident. Every month an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner in this country."
McDonald continued, "This event occurred in a place of business where other employees were just a few feet away. My office has charged this individual with first-degree murder, the most serious charge under Michigan law, and we will vigorously prosecute this perpetrator for his alleged actions."
