ARLINGTON, Texas (TCD) -- Police arrested a 42-year-old woman this week on suspicion of killing her husband because he asked her to come over and sign divorce papers.
According to a news release from the Arlington Police Department, on Wednesday, May 24, shortly before 6 a.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on the 3200 block of Sweet Gum Trail. My Tran reportedly called police and said she had "hit her husband in the head with a hammer."
The arrest affidavit obtained by WFAA-TV said Tran's 45-year-old husband was found "bloody with trauma to his head," and a hammer was recovered nearby. EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Upon their arrival, police said Tran was sitting outside the apartment and was taken into custody. Prior to the fatal beating, the victim reportedly asked Tran to "come to the apartment to sign divorce papers."
According to WFAA, Tran told police she "had built up anger" over her relationship with the victim, and at approximately 4 a.m. that day, she grabbed a hammer from her car and thought about killing him.
Tran allegedly hit her husband "six to seven times in his head" with the hammer before calling police.
Tran was initially booked into the Arlington City Jail on a charge of murder, but she is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail without bond.
