HOUSTON (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of fatally shooting his 29-year-old common-law wife over the weekend.
According to a news release from the Houston Police Department, on Sunday, June 11, at approximately 7:55 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex at 2020 Bentworth Drive to a report of a shooting, where they found a female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. KTRK-TV identified the victim as Jasmine McHenry.
Police arrested the suspect, Thomas Wilson Alexander, on suspicion of murder and booked him into the Harris County Jail.
Court documents cited by KTRK allege Alexander shot and killed McHenry in front of her 9-year-old daughter. The girl reportedly called her grandmother, who then rushed over to the apartment.
McHenry’s daughter told KTRK, "I told the police, 'My stepdad shot my mom.'"
McHenry and Alexander reportedly have a 3-year-old son together.
Alexander is being held on $1 million bond, Harris County Jail records show. He is scheduled to appear in court June 14.
