NEWTON, Mass. (TCD) -- Three people, including a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, were killed in an apparent stabbing and beating at their home early Sunday morning.
On Sunday, June 25, at 10:14 a.m., Newton Police received a call from someone who reported finding three elderly people deceased inside a home on Broadway Street from apparent stab wounds and blunt force trauma. Police arrived at the scene and discovered signs of forced entry. No one has been arrested yet.
About 3 1/2 hours earlier, residents at a home on Brookside Avenue contacted Newton Police to report an apparent break-in. Newton Police detectives are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.
At a press conference Sunday evening, Middlesex Prosecutor Marian Ryan urged residents to remain vigilant and to lock their doors and windows. She said the "elderly" victims have not been identified yet but confirmed that two of the three were ringing in their golden anniversary. The third victim is another relative, but their exact relationship was not known.
People reportedly became worried about the victims when they did not show up to church.
Ryan said this was Newton’s first triple homicide in recent memory.
