PORTLAND, Ore. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man is in custody after allegedly assaulting and fatally beating his 64-year-old mother.
According to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau, on Thursday, June 22, shortly after 7:20 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to a residence on the 1300 block of Northeast 68th Avenue to a report of an assault. At the scene, officers found the victim, Kathy Green, with "serious, life-threatening injuries" and transported her to the hospital.
Officers made contact with Green’s son, Austin Green-Yurick, who remained at the scene and was cooperative throughout the investigation.
Police allege Green-Yurick hit his mother with a baseball bat.
According to a probable cause document obtained by KEPR-TV, Green-Yurick called 911 and said he was "tired of the way his mother treated him and so he struck her."
Officers initially arrested Green-Yurick on charges of second-degree attempted murder — domestic violence, second-degree assault — domestic violence, and unlawful use of a weapon — domestic violence.
However, on Saturday, June 24, police said the victim succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her son’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder — domestic violence, second-degree assault — domestic violence, and unlawful use of a weapon — domestic violence.
Green-Yurick remains held in the Multnomah County Detention Center without bail, and he appeared in court Monday, June 26.
