GRAPEVINE, Texas (TCD) -- A 35-year-old man is in custody after officials found a female body floating in a lake last week.
According to a news release from the Grapevine Police Department, on Thursday, July 6, at around 2:30 p.m., a driver on Fairway Drive reported that her passenger noticed a body near the spillway of a dam in Grapevine Lake. Officers responded to the scene, recovered the body, and observed "signs of trauma inconsistent with drowning."
The next day, the Grapevine Police Department identified the victim as Jennifer Holmes of Lewisville. Detectives started investigating Holmes’ death and identified Daniel Burch as a suspect. The two reportedly lived together and were "close friends."
During an interview, Burch reportedly told detectives he and Holmes got into an argument on their way to Grapevine Lake on July 5. Burch pulled over on Fairway Drive and allegedly shot Holmes multiple times before dumping her body in the lake.
Police noted they found some of the case evidence more than a mile from where Holmes’ body was found.
On July 8, police booked Burch into the Tarrant County Corrections Center on a charge of murder. He remains held on $150,000 bond.
