HURST, Texas (TCD) -- An alleged road rage incident turned deadly this week after a woman was reportedly fatally shot in the head.
According to a news release from the Hurst Police Department, on Monday, July 10, at around 9:18 p.m., Hurst Police and Fire units responded to the 1400 block of West Hurst Boulevard and found 37-year-old Paola Nunez Linares suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Fire department medics transported Nunez Linares to John Peter Smith Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said the victim’s husband was at the scene and told officials they were "involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle."
The husband, Zane Jones, told KDFW-TV they were on their way to work at Kelly-Moore Paints in a 2017 Kia minivan when Jones passed a car, and another vehicle revved up behind him.
Jones told the news source, "I completed the pass. I got into the right lane, and he started to zoom past me, but then he leveled off when he got to me, and he moved over, like pushing me, but not touching me because I moved over too."
The victim’s husband then allegedly flipped off the other driver.
KDFW reports that Jones said, "I looked over at him when I did it, and I thought he was flipping me off too. But it turns out he was holding the gun."
The suspect allegedly shot through their back left window, and the bullet struck the victim in the back of the head. The suspect reportedly shot into the victim’s vehicle at least three times before Jones was able to pull off the highway and call 911.
Police described the suspect vehicle as a "small, dark-colored older model car."
Police have asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
