LAKE CHARLES, La. (TCD) -- A 23-year-old man who allegedly shot and injured someone this week was arrested after he was found hiding nearby.
According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 1 at around 4 a.m., deputies were called to a home on Sherry Street in Sulphur regarding a medical emergency and found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital but then transferred him to a different one out of town. He is in critical condition.
Detectives began looking into the shooting and identified Erron Fontenot as their main suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe Fontenot was "possibly hiding in the immediate area where the incident occurred." They began searching for him and six hours later, at approximately 10 a.m., they located him "hiding under a mobile home one street over from where the shooting occurred."
Deputies initially arrested Fontenot on a charge of trespassing, but then a judge signed an arrest warrant for second-degree murder.
