LOS ANGELES (TCD) -- Police are working to identify a group of men who allegedly assaulted a 32-year-old man outside a Hollywood nightclub over the weekend, killing him.
According to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, on Sunday, July 30, at approximately 2 a.m., Hollywood Division officers responded to the 6500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found an unconscious man who wasn’t breathing. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The victim, identified by KABC-TV as Daniel Sandifer, was working as a security guard outside Dragonfly Club when the fatal attack occurred.
Police allege a group of seven to 11 men confronted Sandifer. He reportedly "lost his footing and fell to the street" before the suspects "advanced and began kicking and stomping the victim." Afterward, the men allegedly fled the scene on foot.
Police have asked anyone with information or a recording of the incident to contact the department. Officials have not yet made any arrests.
Detective Samuel Marullo said, "We know that oftentimes people will record these types of incidents on their cellphone. We would encourage them to share that with us as it can help bring a sense of justice to this person’s family."
According to KABC, Sandifer lived in the Compton area and was a father of two girls.
