NORFOLK, Va. (TCD) -- A 50-year-old man and his 43-year-old wife were taken into custody last week for allegedly beating a man to death using a frying pan and baseball bat.
On Friday, Aug. 11, at 6:40 p.m., Norfolk Police officers responded to the 700 block of Mariners Way for a report of a death. When they arrived, they found Jose Moreno, 45, deceased. Police subsequently arrested James Lynch and Kristie Lynch for second-degree murder.
According to court documents cited by WVEC-TV, Moreno’s body was at the bottom of the stairs with cuts and bruises on his face and neck. The Lynches allegedly confessed to police that they killed Moreno following an argument, although the couple reportedly could not agree on how they actually knew Moreno.
During the physical altercation, both Lynches allegedly used a frying pan to beat Moreno, then switched to a baseball bat and hit him in the knees and head. The criminal complaint alleges they put a dog leash around Moreno’s neck and they "admitted to causing victim’s injuries."
Kristie Lynch reportedly said she her husband have been in Norfolk for six years, but she has "hated every minute of it."
WVEC reports James Lynch has previously been charged with assault.
Norfolk County Jail records show both are being held without bond.
