Fla. woman sentenced for fatally stabbing her mom during argument over a relationship

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A judge sentenced a 22-year-old woman for killing her mother three years ago when they got into a fight over the suspect’s relationship with one of her mother’s friends.

The 18th Judicial Circuit State’s Attorney’s Office announced Jackalynn D’Auria was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 1,028 days of time served for fatally stabbing her mother, 36-year-old Amanda Ervin, in 2020. A jury convicted D’Auria in July of manslaughter with a deadly weapon following a six-day trial. She was acquitted of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, which could have landed her in prison for life.

According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, on Oct. 24, 2020, Palm Beach Police were called to a residence on Canal Lane and found Ervin dead from multiple stab wounds. Police identified D’Auria, who they described as her "recently reconciled daughter," as the suspect and took her into custody.

Police reportedly said D’Auria was thought to have killed her mother "during a confrontation over D’Auria’s relationship with one of Ervin’s friends."

D’Auria testified during the trial that she killed her mother in self-defense.

Florida Today reported at the time of D’Auria’s arrest that she told police her mom came into her room and started punching her. D’Auria reportedly picked up a knife and stabbed Ervin to protect herself. The two did not live together.

After the stabbing, she fled and was found hiding on a bus.
