LYNCHBURG, Va. (TCD) -- A 21-year-old man was arrested after his wife’s remains were found in a wooded area several days after she was reported missing.
Twenty-year-old Avriel Hooks was reported missing to the Lynchburg Police Department on Aug. 23 after her family last saw her the night prior at approximately 8 p.m. Police said her disappearance was "suspicious" because she did not have any communication with her family.
On Aug. 29, six days after she was reported missing, Lynchburg Police investigators discovered human remains in Amherst County and said they identified a person of interest relating to her disappearance. Her husband, Michael Perry III, was arrested Aug. 31 on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful disposal of a dead body.
WDBJ-TV reports Perry and Hooks have a 5-month-old son together.
Blue Ridge Regional Jail records show Perry is being held without bond.
