OKLAHOMA CITY (TCD) -- Police arrested a 41-year-old sheriff’s deputy after he allegedly shot and killed his wife, also a deputy, in their home last week.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, in the early hours of Aug. 30, officers responded to a domestic disturbance and possible shooting on SW 30th Street. When they arrived, they found 40-year-old Jordan Cannon deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Vaughn Cannon, her husband, was on scene and police took him into custody.
Police said the couple were "engaged in a heated argument" when he allegedly shot and killed his wife. Both Jordan and Vaughn Cannon were Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Cannon was booked into the Canadian County Jail on a first-degree murder charge.
KFOR-TV reports Cannon has since been let go from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.
Jordan Cannon filed for divorce in 2021 after two years of marriage, but the case was dismissed in October 2022 because she did not show up for court.
According to court documents cited by KOCO-TV, Jordan’s 17-year-old son reportedly heard "five gunshots and his stepfather screaming from the bedroom," so he called police.
When speaking with police, Cannon allegedly said he "didn’t remember the entire incident," though he "remembers being in the bedroom with his wife and hearing gunshots and calling his uncle."
On Aug. 30, Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason wrote in a statement, "We are all heartbroken. Jordan was a ray of sunshine with a smile that could light up a room. She loved being a deputy sheriff and had a heart for serving others. This is a difficult time for everyone involved, but we will get through this together."
Amason said he called in counselors and other support services following her death.
