SOMERSET, Ky. (TCD) -- A 67-year-old woman died after her daughter left her on the floor for several weeks and allegedly refused to call for help when she fell.
Abra McDonald, 49, was indicted Sept. 8 for knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult in connection with her mother’s fall and subsequent death in June.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, on June 27, deputies responded to Karen McDonald’s home and transported her to a hospital after learning she had "been in the same spot on the floor where she had fallen several weeks prior."
Karen McDonald died the next day due to the "physical trauma she sustained."
Investigators learned the deceased had lived with her daughter, Abra McDonald. The Sheriff’s Office alleges the daughter "made no attempts for several weeks to contact someone to assist her mother in getting up from the floor, despite having cellular phone service and nearby neighbors."
The house also reportedly did not have running water.
According to WKYT-TV, sepsis and other causes of neglect led to Karen McDonald’s death.
Det. Lt. Matt Bryant told WKYT, "She did supply her with some food, things like that, but leaving her in the floor was the most detrimental to her health."
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said McDonald’s bond is set at $250,000.
