Woman indicted for allegedly drunkenly crashing car into couple on wedding night, killing bride

CHARLESTON, S.C. (TCD) -- A grand jury returned a four-count indictment against a 26-year-old woman who allegedly drove her car into a golf cart transporting a couple on their wedding night, killing the bride and injuring three people.

Charleston County court records show Jamie Komoroski was indicted Wednesday, Sept. 20, on one count of driving under the influence resulting in death, two counts of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily harm, and one count of reckless homicide in connection with the death of Samantha Hutchinson.

Komoroski remains in custody at the Charleston County Jail, where she is being held without bond.

According to Komoroski’s arrest affidavit, on April 28 at 10:16 p.m., Folly Beach Police were called to the 1200 block of E. Ashley Ave. regarding a car crash with injuries and found a golf cart on its side against a Toyota Camry. The responding officer "observed multiple victims who were laying throughout the crash site," including new bride Samantha Hutchinson and her husband, Aric Hutchinson. The victims were reportedly "in and out of consciousness."

The affidavit says Samantha Hutchinson wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse. The officer attempted lifesaving measures on her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Komoroski, who was reportedly driving the Camry, did not sustain any injuries in the crash. According to the report, the officer smelled alcohol on Komoroski’s breath. When he asked her if she had anything to drink, she allegedly said she consumed a beer and some tequila about an hour before the crash. The officer reportedly asked her to rate her intoxication on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most intoxicated, and she reportedly said she was an 8.

The officer tried to conduct a sobriety test, but Komoroski allegedly "strongly refused and became uncooperative on scene."

WCSC-TV reports Komoroski’s blood alcohol level was a 0.261, more than three times the legal limit. She was also reportedly speeding.

Aric Hutchinson filed a wrongful death suit against Komoroski and several bars in the area where the accident occurred, according to WCSC. The suit reportedly accuses Komoroski of having a "booze-filled day of bar hopping" prior to the crash.
