Indiana man allegedly walked onto neighbor’s property and shot him in the buttocks

STINESVILLE, Ind. (TCD) -- Deputies are actively searching for a suspect they say allegedly shot his neighbor in the butt during a dispute this week.

According to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of Monday, Nov. 13, Indiana University Health Bloomington alerted deputies about a male victim being treated for a gunshot wound.

The victim and a witness told the sheriff’s office they were gathering belongings at the victim’s property when 64-year-old Bret Sherrow, a known neighbor, reportedly came over. The victim saw Sherrow "pull a gun out and then place it in his pocket," and then Sherrow allegedly shoved him. The victim tried to pepper spray Sherrow but failed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sherrow allegedly began reaching for the gun, and the victim ran away. As he was running, the victim reportedly heard a gunshot and realized that he was hit in the buttocks. The separate witness drove the victim to Indiana University Health Bloomington to seek medical treatment.

Deputies posted Sherrow’s photograph and asked for the public’s assistance in finding him. Sherrow is reportedly 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds. The statement said not to approach Sherrow because he could be armed and dangerous.
