KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (TCD) -- A 17-year-old male faces a charge of murder after allegedly killing a 40-year-old mother of three late last year.
On Nov. 8, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Knightdale Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at a home on Twain Town Drive, where they discovered that Shinaka Ocean Earth had been shot while she sat on her front porch. Officers said the home was "riddled with bullets." First responders attempted lifesaving measures on the victim, but Earth was pronounced dead at the scene.
Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps called the investigation "complex," adding, "From the beginning, this case demanded a meticulous and calculated approach."
On March 20, police announced a break in the case and that they identified the teen as the primary suspect and booked him into a juvenile detention center on a secured custody order. He was charged with one open count of murder.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and they are actively pursuing possible leads and additional suspects.
