BEDFORD, Mass. (TCN) -- A 24-year-old woman has been charged with murder for allegedly fatally shooting her parents in the head while they were in their car waiting to go out for breakfast.
On June 6 at approximately 9 a.m., Bedford Police Department officers responded to Washington Street after Jessica Cavallaro called to report she shot her parents. Police arrived and found a 56-year-old woman deceased in a car, which was on a neighboring lawn, and a 56-year-old man injured. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office identified the victims as Thelma Tatten and Mark Cavallaro.
Police arrested Jessica Cavallaro on two counts of murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and illegal possession of a firearm.
She was arraigned in Concord District Court and a judge ordered her to be held without bail.
According to WBTS-TV, on the day of the shooting, Cavallaro’s parents picked her up from work early because she allegedly said she had a panic attack. They dropped her off at her boyfriend’s home on Washington Street, where she lives, and waited for her outside so they could go to breakfast together. She reportedly came out about 30 minutes later and shot her parents when she got in the car. She then went back into the home and confessed to her boyfriend’s parents.
WBTS reports the gun belonged to her boyfriend, who kept the firearm in a safe. She did not have a permit to carry a gun, nor does she have any previous criminal record.
Cavallaro will reportedly undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
