PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (TCN) -- A 38-year-old mother and a 39-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of abusing two children, causing life-threatening injuries to a 3-year-old boy.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office first arrested Samantha Kimberly on June 8 after her two sons, ages 3 and 14, suffered injuries due to suspected child abuse. At around 5 p.m. that day, deputies responded to a home in reference to an unresponsive 3-year-old who was having trouble breathing.
The toddler was eventually airlifted to a hospital in Colorado Springs for severe injuries. As of June 11, deputies said the child remains in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office observed visible injuries on the teenage victim. He was treated at a local hospital and then placed into the custody of the Department of Human Services.
Kimberly faces charges of felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and child abuse.
The sheriff’s office announced June 11 that they arrested a second suspect in the case, Brittany Farmer, at the home she shared with Kimberly and her children. Farmer also faces charges of felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and child abuse.
The two suspects were booked into the Pueblo County Jail, where Kimberly remains held on $50,000 bond and Farmer on $500,000 bond. Additional charges are possible.
Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero said, "No child should have to experience what these two children have been through."
