DETROIT (TCN) -- A 31-year-old woman faces charges after allegedly lighting her boyfriend’s house on fire shortly after their breakup, killing his mother and severely injuring two other people.
On the night of June 3, the Detroit Police Department alleges Cinamon Rigmaiden doused the porch of her ex-boyfriend’s home with accelerant and set it ablaze before fleeing the scene. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, fire personnel responded and extinguished the flames.
Medics found and pronounced 53-year-old Tina Dorrough deceased at the scene. Two surviving victims, a 57-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Rigmaiden had allegedly broken up with Dorrough’s son not long before the incident.
After fleeing, Rigmaiden reportedly texted her boyfriend about the fire and went to a McDonald’s, WDIV-TV reports.
According to WDIV, Rigmaiden ignited the flames even though she reportedly knew Dorrough suffered from mobility issues. The boyfriend was not home during the incident.
Livonia Police arrested Rigmaiden and turned her over to the Detroit Police Department on June 4.
Rigmaiden faces one count of felony murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of first-degree arson, and one count of third-degree arson.
Wayne County prosecuting attorney Kim Worthy said, "Since when is the solution in the breakup of a relationship setting fire to an occupied house? The alleged actions of the defendant in this case are beyond reprehensible."
