BALTIMORE (TCN) -- A 24-year-old teacher faces charges after allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl who recently went missing.
The Baltimore County Police Department alleges 24-year-old Baltimore City Public Schools teacher Lewis Laury had an inappropriate relationship with the young victim. According to WMAR-TV, the girl was reported missing on June 21 and reportedly left her mother a note explaining she was going to meet a friend in Pennsylvania.
The victim allegedly kept in contact with Laury using a friend's phone. Investigators responded to Laury's apartment, which is the same complex where the 12-year-old resides. Inside the suspect's home, authorities reportedly found the missing girl, but Laury was not there.
According to WMAR, the victim said she told Laury she was 22 years old, and they had consensual unprotected sex multiple times in his home.
Baltimore County Police detectives arrested Laury on July 1 on charges of second-degree rape and third-degree sexual offense. He remains held in the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail. Court records show Laury is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 26.
