BURLINGTON, Iowa (TCN) -- Police arrested a 48-year-old man this week for allegedly shooting his father amid an argument about the son’s "stinky feet."
In a statement, the Burlington Police Department said on Aug. 11, officers were dispatched to a home on Monarch Drive regarding a shooting. When they arrived, they made contact with the suspect, David Carpenter. Police entered the home and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
According to the affidavit cited by KWQC-TV, Carpenter’s father spoke with police and said he and his son got into a disagreement about "David’s stinky feet." Carpenter said he and his father were in the living room and his father commented that Carpenter’s feet smelled bad. They allegedly started fighting about family concerns, and Carpenter threatened to shoot him. KWQC reports Carpenter allegedly went to his room, retrieved his gun, and aimed it at his dad. He claims he "accidentally" pulled the trigger.
Burlington Police arrested Carpenter on charges of attempted murder and child endangerment. KWQC reports there were children under the age of 14 at home when the shooting occurred.
