ALTOONA, Pa. (TCN) -- A 43-year-old woman was taken into custody on multiple charges for allegedly slashing her boyfriend's throat and hands after he refused to give her his medication.
According to the Altoona Police Department, on Oct. 5 at 1:04 a.m., officers responded to a home on Broad Avenue regarding a domestic incident with a knife. When they arrived, they found the male victim with cuts across his throat and hands. Police allege the victim's girlfriend, Rebekah Edwards, stood over the bed "with a large kitchen knife positioned against his throat threatening his life and demanding his Klonopin pills."
Edwards reportedly slashed his throat, but the victim managed to disarm her. She reportedly started hitting him with another knife again "as he attempted to thwart the attack." That's when he sustained the injuries to his hands.
The victim reportedly took the knife away from her again before police showed up.
Court records cited by WTAJ-TV allege Edwards held the knife to her boyfriend's throat and said, "I'm going to kill you. You don't think I'll do it?" Edwards reportedly told police that her boyfriend previously gave her some of his Klonopin, a medicine typically prescribed for anxiety, sleeplessness, and alcohol withdrawal.
When they got there, police reportedly noticed a knife on the front steps and blood throughout the home.
Edwards and her boyfriend had been living together for about eight years.
Altoona Police said Edwards was arrested on charges of criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, possession of instruments of a crime, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, and simple assault. Her bail was set at $100,000 cash.
