NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (TCN) -- An investigation is underway after a 33-year-old mother allegedly jumped into Niagara Falls with her young child and infant this week.
On the night of Oct. 28, New York State Park Police and New York State Police responded to the area around Goat Island and learned Chianti Means, 9-year-old Roman Rossman, and 5-month-old Mecca Means crossed over a safety guard rail and fell over Niagara Falls on Luna Island, which is next to Goat Island. State police concluded the "incident was intentional in nature."
According to ABC News, New York State Trooper James O'Callaghan said there are a "lot of security measures" at Luna Falls, and "It's not something where they just stumbled in."
O'Callaghan added, "Based on the information we have, we do know it was an intentional act, but the reason why is tougher to answer."
In a statement obtained by Syracuse.com, a state police spokesperson said Chianti Means and her two children are presumed dead, but authorities are continuing to search for their bodies.
