PANAMA CITY, Fla. (TCN) -- A 41-year-old woman's request to buy drugs ended with her behind bars because she reportedly texted a narcotics investigator rather than her dealer.
According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office, on Dec. 31, Octavia Wells messaged "someone she believed was a drug dealer" and asked to purchase some fentanyl before she went out of town. Wells' request, however, got sent to a narcotics investigator with the sheriff's office instead. The investigator "immediately began communicating with Octavia in an undercover capacity" and agreed to set up a drug sale.
On Jan. 6, Wells went to a gas station to meet who she thought was her dealer, but she ended up encountering "several investigators" from the Bay County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Division.
Detectives took Wells into custody on charges of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license suspended or revoked with knowledge. The sheriff's office urged in the statement, "Be careful who you text."
