Missing Mich. woman Ashley Elkins' ex-boyfriend charged with murder

WARREN, Mich. (TCN) -- Prosecutors filed several charges against a 32-year-old man they allege killed his missing girlfriend, whose abandoned car was found near his apartment after she disappeared.

The Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced Jan. 31 that they indicted Deandre Booker on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment and mutilation of a dead body, and concealing the death of an individual in connection with the death of 30-year-old Ashley Elkins. Booker was already in custody on suspicion of lying to police regarding Elkins' disappearance.

The prosecuting attorney’s office alleges Elkins went to Booker’s apartment on Jan. 2, and while there, Booker killed her and got rid of her body.

Elkins' family reported her missing to the Warren Police Department, and her phone pinged her location as Booker’s home. Officials searched Booker’s residence and reportedly took a large dumpster into evidence, which led them to search a nearby landfill for Elkins’ remains.

Booker is in custody at the Macomb County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said, "Our hearts are with Ashley’s family as they endure this unimaginable pain, and we remain committed to seeking justice for them and our community. No one should suffer such a loss, and we will do everything in our power to ensure accountability."
