WALESKA, Ga. (TCN) -- A 27-year-old man has been convicted of causing fatal injuries to a baby consistent with shaking.
The Cherokee County District Attorney's Office announced that a jury found Gregory Davis Jr. guilty on May 1 of malice murder, felony murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. Davis' sentencing will be set at a later date.
According to prosecutors, on April 28, 2021, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an unresponsive baby, identified as 1-year-old James "Jamie" Marco Palcio. The victim's mother was at work at the time, and Davis was the only adult caring for the child.
Per the district attorney's office, pediatric specialists determined Palcio sustained "abusive head trauma consistent with shaking," and his injuries included "subdural hemorrhage, retinal hemorrhages, ligamentous injuries to the neck, a fractured rib, and fractured vertebrae in the lumbar spine." Two days later, on April 30, 2021, Palcio was pronounced brain dead. An autopsy revealed the child died from acute and healing traumatic injuries to the head, neck, and torso, and his death was ruled a homicide.
