WASHINGTON COUNTY, Maine (TCN) -- Authorities recently arrested a 65-year-old man on suspicion of killing an 18-year-old woman more than four decades ago.
According to the Maine State Police, Linda Maxwell was last seen in Calais on the night of Aug. 23, 1984, hanging out with friends. Her body was found two days later along the shoreline of the St. Croix River in Robbinston. Despite investigators' efforts at the time, no arrests were made, and the case went cold.
Over 40 years later, on May 1, officials identified Raymond Brown as the primary suspect, and he was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Bangor. According to state police, a jury indicted him on a charge of murder.
Authorities said, "This arrest reflects the continued commitment of the Maine State Police and the Attorney General’s Office to pursue justice in homicide cases, regardless of how much time has passed."
