But the little boy’s dreams of becoming a comic book-like hero of his own were cut short when Douglas Garland, one of Alvin’s relatives by marriage, kidnapped, tortured, and killed Nathan, Kathy, and Alvin. Investigators learned a disagreement over a patent led to the vicious murder that changed a family forever.
