WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) -- A 40-year-old man was captured and is in custody on multiple charges for allegedly beating and sexually assaulting a woman, locking her in a container, and killing her mother.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, on April 28 at approximately 5:20 p.m., a driver called 911 to report that he "found the victim of a brutal attack" and that she needed immediate medical assistance. Deputies and medics arrived at the location and spoke with the victim, who claimed David Gipson came to her home, then "became irate and started attacking her."
Gipson allegedly bound and gagged her, threatened to kill her, beat her with a blunt object, and took her back to his residence, where he continued to hurt her. Afterward, he reportedly placed her in a container in his yard.
The victim eventually managed to escape the container before running to a nearby roadway, where the driver saw her.
Gipson fled the area, but the sheriff’s office issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of sexual battery, aggravated battery with a weapon, and false imprisonment.
Deputies located Gipson in a wooded area the next day and arrested him.
WTVY-TV reports deputies went to the victim’s house and discovered her 74-year-old mother deceased inside with injuries consistent with beating.
The sheriff’s office announced May 1 that Gipson is being charged with open murder, aggravated battery of a person 65 years or older, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, sexual assault, abuse of a dead human body, and kidnapping. He’s being held without bond.
The victim was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
