WASHINGTON (TCN) -- A 37-year-old man will spend five decades behind bars for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend after their breakup.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia announced May 2 that Idrissa Fall received a sentence of 50 years after a jury previously convicted him in January of first-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Fall will also have to serve five years of supervised release.
According to prosecutors, on July 18, 2021, shortly before 1:30 a.m., Fall's ex-girlfriend, Dana Northern, left her residence and walked toward her friend's car "for a night on the town." Northern had recently broken up with Fall and kicked him out of her home.
Fall reportedly followed Northern as she went into her friend's vehicle. He then fatally shot her as she sat next to her best friend and fled. Northern sustained a gunshot wound to her right eye. She was declared brain dead that day and eventually died from her injuries. Authorities arrested Fall weeks later, on Aug. 2, 2021.
