MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (TCN) -- A 25-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for fatally stabbing his parents several years ago.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office announced May 8 that a jury found Ryan True guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents, 55-year-old Renee True and 52-year-old David True. He received two life sentences, WFXT-TV reports.
According to prosecutors, on the morning of Dec. 10, 2020, Middleborough Police responded to a residence for a welfare check and found the victims deceased with stabs wounds and reportedly covered in blankets. Ryan True turned himself in after the incident.
Before police found the victims’ bodies, the defendant allegedly told his half-brother on the phone that something bad had happened and that he was in his mother’s vehicle nearby, WBTS-TV reports. The defendant purportedly "told him he was the only one who left the house alive."
According to WBTS, another half-brother told police he couldn’t reach his father, but when he spoke with the defendant, True allegedly said the victim was drunk, and he "did what he had to do." True claimed that he stabbed his mother after she arrived home and as she went to retrieve a gun, WBTS reports.
According to prosecutors, True fled the scene in his mother’s vehicle but returned to the residence. Investigators recovered two large suitcases, a cellphone, and a bloody knife inside the car.
