GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (TCN) -- A 53-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison for breaking into a woman's home, sexually assaulting her, and beating her for two days.
According to a May 14 news release from the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, a jury convicted Christopher Clamp of aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, first-degree burglary, aggravated stalking, battery — family violence, misdemeanor terroristic threats, and misdemeanor hindering an emergency telephone call. The defendant received a life sentence, plus 90 years.
On Jan. 16, 2022, police responded to a home to perform a welfare check, where they "encountered the victim in a state of panic and suffering from several injuries." Prosecutors said the woman informed officers that Clamp had hit, choked, and sexually assaulted her over the course of two days after he broke into her house. The victim purportedly claimed that the defendant stopped her from calling 911 after he forced his way inside the residence. The district attorney's office said Clamp previously sent her threatening emails.
During the trial, prosecutors presented jurors with the threatening emails, as well as photos of the victim's injuries. The jury returned the guilty verdicts after deliberating for just over half an hour.
In a statement, District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said, "We hope this verdict and sentence helps this victim recover from the trauma the defendant inflicted on her. Her bravery to face him in court is an important part of her healing journey."
