Alabama man sentenced for dousing ex in gasoline and setting her on fire

PRICEVILLE, Ala. (TCN) -- A 22-year-old man will spend over two decades behind bars for setting his ex-girlfriend on fire in an attempt to kill her.
On May 29, the Priceville Police Department announced that a judge sentenced Marquise Wayns to 22 years in prison for attempted murder.
According to police, on the night of Jan. 10, 2023, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance and found a 19-year-old female victim with severe burns to her face and upper torso. The victim was stabilized before she was transported to a burn center.
The victim reportedly told investigators that the defendant poured gasoline on her before setting her on fire. Although authorities did not disclose their relationship, WHNT-TV reports that they had previously dated.
