Iowa woman allegedly killed her husband after he threatened to harm her and their dog

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (TCN) -- A 66-year-old woman allegedly shot and killed her husband after their dog stopped him from attacking her.
According to a release from Cedar Falls Public Safety, on June 4, Cedar Falls Police responded to a home on Newland Drive to a report of a domestic dispute and possible shooting. At the scene, officers found 72-year-old David Charlton deceased.
Kimberly Charlton told authorities her husband attempted to physically assault her, but their dog stopped him, KGAN-TV reports. David Charlton allegedly threatened to beat their dog with a cane, and his wife retrieved a gun and told him, "I’m going to shoot you if you don't stop." Charlton reportedly admitted to investigators that she shot her husband in the middle of the back, killing him.
Charlton was arrested and faces a charge of first-degree murder. She remains held in the Black Hawk County Jail on $1 million bond.
