WAYNESBORO, Penn. (TCN) -- A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted criminal homicide in connection with an alleged attack on his mother.
On Dec. 14, officers responded to a call from a man who said his neighbor had been stabbed, the Washington Township Police announced in a press release.
Responding officers found blood all over the home. The victim, who has not been named, had been stabbed 20 to 30 times and had a large bruise on her head from being hit with a bat, WGAL reports.
She told police her son, Kameren Leith, “stabbed her repeatedly with a butcher knife and struck her in the head with a baseball bat,” per WGAL. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and underwent surgery.
The victim said he had also stolen her Ford Focus. Police issued a BOLO for the vehicle and tracked the location of Leith’s cellphone to apprehend him.
Leith was taken into custody after pursuit on foot, police say.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Penn Live, Leith’s step-grandfather told detectives Leith had been acting strangely and reportedly had a knife and baseball bat laid out the day before the attack. No motive was provided in any court documents.
Penn Live reports Leith’s mother posted a status update on Facebook five days before the attack that Leith was missing. A few hours later, she stated she had found him.
Leith is being at the Franklin County Jail while awaiting court proceedings. According to WGAL, he was denied bail.
