Las Vegas man accused of killing grandma with a hatchet claimed he heard ‘AI voices’

LAS VEGAS (TCN) -- A man accused of killing his grandmother reportedly told authorities that he heard “AI voices” before and after the alleged incident.

On Dec. 29, 2025, the Las Vegas Metro Police announced they received a call requesting a welfare check at the home of Reyna Flores De Hernandez, 75.

KFVS says the caller reportedly told police the woman’s 41-year-old grandson, Franklin Flores, had said Flores de Hernandez had “gone to heaven.”

Officers responding at the home found Flores de Hernandez’s body on her bed, covered in blankets. She had suffered multiple sharp-force injuries, according to KFVS. 

KVVU reports she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were able to locate Flores through his wife, who tracked his location on her phone. 

According to the police, Flores was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon.

During his interview with authorities, Flores reportedly spoke in a delusional manner about an Amazon warehouse where he worked, KFVS reports. He claimed his wife and child were being hurt and that there was human trafficking at his workplace. He believed his wife was stealing from him and left his home to move in with Flores de Hernandez.

In the interview, KFVS reports Flores said he believed his grandmother was also part of the conspiracy and he could hear AI voices whispering to her. He allegedly gave Flores de Hernandez a kiss goodnight before striking her with a hatchet, according to the outlet, and continued to live with the body in the apartment for several days while hearing AI voices.

Flores reportedly told officers he has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and PTSD but believes those diagnoses to be a mistake and does not take medication. 

Flores appeared in court for the first time on Jan. 5, according to KFVS.
